Still no news when and where the record comes out.

Facebook: I'm gonna join when Facebook comes out on vinyl. Or else when I'm bored enough.
Keep on rocking in the digital world.

Regarding "Popular Music From Vittula" mentioned earlier... the movie got so-so reviews when it came out. Haven't seen it myself. Almost afraid to, because the book was so amazing. It's also translated into English, so try it out. It's hilarious (but with depth - and manages to give an idea about what that way-northern Scandinavian mentality and culture feels like). :-)

2666 was a difficult read,I was initially mystified as I thought it was about the Cuidad murders, at least the review I read dwelled on those. So I was surprised to be reading about obscure European authors when it started. Nevertheless I was glad it was more than just a crime novel. It seemed like a blend of Garcia Marquez and Umberto Eco. I found myself reading a piece and then going back to an earlier chapter to refresh my mind as I was getting lost somewhat. Overall a book that took me some time to read and which demands a rereading when I limber up to it.

I've not read Blankets but I really enjoy the "soundtrack" to it by Tracker, who you may recall opened for Giant Sand on a pretty well-circulated bootleg circa '01. Great stuff. Don't think they're released an album since then, though the two the preceded it are just as good (or better). Also, I second the recommendation for Jonathan Lethem's Chronic City. A captivating story full of musical and literary references you're sure to dig. Got to hear Mr Lethem read the first few chapters in a Denver bookstore last fall. James, how's Utah stack up to Tennessee?

I like the book and music talk, too. Glad to see some discussion here again.

hey paul... im just reading 2666 and to be honest... maybe im not in the mood right now but... it doesnt catch me... im right in the middle, at the chapter about the crimes comitted to all the women in mexico... there is a stream, that seems to swallow my attention, cause the characters are interesting... but it somehow spits me out again after a while... tell me about your thoughts about that book... have i read to much comics and graphic novels, so that i cannot worship good literature anymore...?? ... by the way, speaking of graphic novels: craig thompson >>blankets<< would be my recommendation for those of you liking that stuff, like i do...

We are..............no, I'm not going to say it.
No tension, healthy chat, recommendations? Roberto Bolano's 2666, a monster of a book.
A new record, yes please.

Tension ? What's happened, what have I missed ? We are not tense are we ?

15:41 on Thursday May 27 2010 - Epping Forest

Blaine/Change
James, don’t sweat it.
The sand shifts and a little tension never hurts. Might keep us on our collective toes even.

For the record the Aimless Blades continue and our pace remains glacial. We play some Lennon tunes at a no handguns gig Sunday and work the next album.

Contact me at blaine117622@yahoodotcom and I’ll get you the last one.

Over an out.

You’re not doomed people… at least not because of me. I used to be a regular on this board way back when it was a different animal altogether. Diving back into to Gelb’s recordings led me back here to see what was going down. It didn’t look like much was. I decided to toss in a couple of comments and questions. Sorry if I brought some tension into what has most always been a good-natured community. Don’t read any sarcasm into that, because there is none there. It was not my intention to stir things up in a negative way, though I had hoped to do so in a fun and productive way. I made a careless snotty statement, half jokingly, and my intentions misfired. After having looked around the site more, I can see that it must indeed be difficult to get the gig info needed. IanG, around eight years ago, I did manage to see Howe play a solo opening show (really solo, as in Howe, and guitar, and a piano) for his friend John Parish in Chicago. That one required a flight from Nashville. Was it worth it? Absolutely. The set was short, but intimate and magical. I got to meet Blaine that night, and briefly speak to Howe. However, I am a family man, and not a rich one, and I can’t be flying around to gigs… especially to ones in Europe. I have moved around a lot, but always seem to be a flight away from any US gig. I have collected quite a few recordings of live performances through the years. Thanks for the offer. Now, I think I’ll evaporate and leave you all in peace. Sorry again for the intrusion. Take care all.

Glue
I leave you kids alone and look what happens, Next you will be chewing the wires. I am still waiting the call up for London but just encase my encased demo's don't get through the wires (and i blame the chewing) I have bought tickets. Looking forward to bumping into a few of you again. That would be nice.

12:53 on Thursday May 27 2010 - cheltenham

IanG
Well, if nothing else traffic on the board has increased.

Personally I don't think there is any 'tension' here, I don't care what people talk about or discuss. If the board was full of spam advertising viagra I might take a different view.

It is incredibly frustrating trying to get info on tour dates, I am fortunate enough to have the freedom to travel to just about any European gig but only if I have plenty advance warning so that I can get cheap flights.

James s, why is it so difficult for you to get to a show? Are you in a part of the USA that GS don't get around to visiting? I can assist with live recordings, scant consolation for not being in attendance, I know but get back to me if you are interested.

we probably are doomed but interestingly on giant sand's facebook page it says that they are only a few weeks away from finishing the new album. and if that isnt good news then i dont know what is

u*l*i
oh... and in terms of recommendations...
i discovered a movie called "together" from... 2003 i believe, its a movie from sweden... its nice... it refers to the live in the 70s and deals with all issues and clichees in a very funny and polite way... if you haven´t seen it allready...
the same goes for "popular music from vittula".. this one is even more exciting...

08:30 on Thursday May 27 2010 - still lost

u*l*i
oh dear god... are we doomed???

08:27 on Thursday May 27 2010 - lost

richard
i think the tensions arising on here is because there seems to be no official regulation of the site and any idea where the tour dates are and how we can get tickets, or hear some new music.

we have been abandoned

04:45 on Thursday May 27 2010 - again wherever
