re: O PIT recording, my recollection of that day is that various coat hangers and hat stands were utilised to try and get everything in place and plugs placed in sockets they had no right being in. suffice to say Howe rolled with it all quite contentedly, and yes is very much worth sticking with for the final pay-off - 'Steadfast 2006'.

yeah L..the o-pit volumes are weird but the live in studio version of Steadfast at the end is super good sounding. the battle of PA going on, all the Canadian nhl teams are out which kinda sucks..Alan, the hot wings look great.

hi, the Orchestra Pit has a newly revamped website - WWW.THEORCHESTRAPIT.COM - where you can go if you'd like to listen to a radio show we recorded w/ Howe about 18 months ago......just click on the Radio / Full Circle tab to the left, then page down towards the bottom. feel free to also become a friend of the Pit and enjoy lots of other musical delights on there too.

Sad to say I have to give the Edinburgh show a miss, however the prospect of three albums goes some way to reduce the anguish. Expect reports from those going (Ian?).

Mr. O, got the Siamesisk live EP yet? In places the horns border on cheesy, but for the most part the arrangements bring more intensity to the songs. Even though I usually like the "less is more" approach (which also makes Howe's El Paso come to mind, as I heard it yesterday). The Siamesisk vinyl got a really nice gatefold picture, by the way... http://www.larsdideriksen.com/underbyen/pictures/cover-siamesisk-gatefold.jpg

Sorry for the delay! I caught Howe at Cafe du Nord in San Francisco on April 24. I've been laying low because I'm so angry/embarrassed. I spent $160.00 buying a spiffy digital video recorder. I was all set to make high quality stereo recording of the show -- a perfect venue, small, intimate club, close in, good sound system. I'd purchased advance tix and dinner seating. All told the evening cost me about $100.00 for two people. And you know how the story ends: After about 90 seconds, the recorder shut down and failed. I didn't even realize it until after the show. So, all I've got is the first piano notes... pretty, but.... As for the show, it was relatively low-key. I imagine the trio was pretty tired having played a "hard rock/metal show" in Tucson two nights before, and having driven all that way since to come to SF. A LOT of Howe patter, monolog and commentary and surrealist jive. Most spirited in a traditional rock sense (?) was "And I Did Not" joined by opener Maki. Some very nice 'lectric cousticy guitar playing, nice piano trills. Best was the end, a mini-epic, with some classical references. Howe said it'll be on the album after next.

Uh-oh, does three days of silence around Richard's question about the pending release bode ill for May?
There's a glorious flowering crab apple tree out my window... and the sun's partially shining through it onto the newly budded-out Japanese maple...

So has anyone had a chance to see Howe live this year ? setlists, vibes, styles etc... and isn't it may, werent there rumours of the eagerly anticipated Giant Sand opus to be released this May month.

ordered my copy of the new recording lars, i feel it's an interesting move to limit it to 2,000 copies in north america..give me a day or so and i'll will type the piece, it's not that lengthy so it won't be a problemo. also purchased & waiting on andrew collberg's debut disc; from what i heard he has a real nice sound.

13:17 on Tuesday April 29 2008 - western canada

Lars
Thanks. Wouldn't make anyone type an article, he-he. A scan (or a close photo?) would be easier, if possible. But if too much trouble, don't worry. I just try and collect whatever I can about the band, because I was there "from the start" and run the fansite. :-)

They have a new live EP out, by the way, where they play with an entire orchestra. They put videos online from performance. Very nice...
